Book Report #1 FICTION Due: September 28th
Project: Advertisement
You will need to create an advertisement for your book. You are trying to sellyour book and get as many people as you can to read it! Think about the real world and how advertisers entice you to watch a movie by displaying attractive posters outside movie theaters. For this project you will create an advertisement poster for your book. Include the following items.
Ø Use posterboard
Ø Title and author
Ø Illustrations - should be eye-catching and relevant to events in the book
Ø Summary - at least one paragraph that will summarize your book. Be sure that this is in your own words!
Ø Creative, neat, and appealing
Book Report #2 NON-FICTION Due: November 2nd
Project: Book Jacket
Another creative project! You will be the illustrator for the book you just read! Create a book jacket for your book. When you create, be sure the design is yours and not what is already there. Your book jacket should have the following items:
Ø Front Cover - title, author, illustrator, picture
Ø Spine - title, author
Ø Back - one paragraph summary - you can include quotes from the story.
Ø Inside - your name
Ø If you find a non-fiction book that you really like but is not 75 pages, it must be approved by Mrs. Sports-Trott
Book Report #3 MYSTERY Due: December 7th
Project: Newspaper Article
You will need to create the front page of a newspaper. Think back to what we know about newspaper articles and have discussed in class already. You want to make it as real as possible. Here is what should be included:
Ø 12X18 construction paper - provided by Mrs. Sports-Trott
Ø Title of newspaper - can have to do with your name or something from your book!
Ø Picture on the front cover from your mystery
Ø 3 articles about your book:
o ONE - Write a brief paragraph about each of the main characters in your mystery. Be sure to tell whether they are a victim, a detective, or a suspect.
o TWO - Pretend you are a TV reporter. Interview one of the characters from your book, asking them questions about the mystery and how it was solved. You MUST use quotation marks in your interview and be sure to show who is talking.
o THREE - Write a brief summary of your mystery, be sure to include the ending of the book. Also, include your opinion of the mystery and be sure to tell whey or why not you liked the book!
Ø Example will be provided by Mrs. Sports-Trott in class
Book Report #4 POETRY Due: January 25th
Project: Oral Presentation
You will need to find a suitable poem to recite to the class from memory! This means you will need to practice, practice, practice at home. Friends and family can make wonderful audiences! Your poem presentation should have:
Ø 50 words or more
Ø Serious - not funny
Ø Rhyming pattern
Ø Eye contact with audience
Ø Fill out an information sheet from Mrs. Sports-Trott
Book Report #5 BIOGRAPHY/AUTOBIOGRAPHY Due: February 22nd
Project: Letter (If the book is not 75 pages, it will need to be approved by Mrs. Sports-Trott)
You will write a letter to the person your book was about. You need to use the format of the letter and be at least one page in length. This letter should be neatly written or typed (Times New Roman Font Size 12 Double Spaced) Include the following items in your letter:
Ø Title and author
Ø What you liked about the person's life
Ø How you felt about their biggest accomplishment
Ø Why you would or would not like to meet them in real life
Ø Any questions you may have
Book Report #6 HOW-TO Due: April 7th
Project: Demonstration (These projects will be presented during AIMS week)
Put your teacher cap on! You will teach the class, through a demonstration, how-to do something. You will not need to read an entire book for this project. You WILL need to learn how-to do something from a BOOK (the book does not have to be 75 pages). Once again, you will need to PRACTICE: your families work great! Your presentation and report must include:
Ø Written assignment with 2 or more paragraphs that include:
o Paragraph ONE - title, author, copyright date. Tells why you chose this book. Gives interesting details about the book that you noticed.
o Paragraph TWO or more - Tell what you are going to show us how to do. DO NOT MAKE A LIST. Your steps should be clearly written in paragraph form. Also, write detailed paragraphs including anything the writer might want to know the materials needed, how much time it takes, what is hard or fun, safety precautions, etc.
Ø Oral presentation should include:
o All needed materials
o You may want to use notecards for yourself - you might get nervous in front of everyone!
o Shows practice
Book Report #7 FANTASY Due: May 9th
Project: Comic Strip
You will create a comic strip that will summarize the book you just read. You may want to take a look at the Sunday's comics in the paper! Be sure to include the following:
Ø 12X18 piece of construction paper
Ø Pick 8 important scenes from the book and recreate the scenes in comic strip form
Ø Each scene should have dialogue
Ø Each scene should be creative and colorful
